Thinking of Studying Philosophy at UNIBEN? Here’s Your Roadmap to Admission

1. O’Level Requirements (SSCE/WAEC/NECO)

The foundation of your admission is your O’Level result. UNIBEN is specific about the subjects you need to have cleared.

• Core Requirement: You must have at least five (5) credit passes.
• Compulsory Subject: English Language.
• Electives: Any two subjects from Arts or Social Sciences.
• The Mathematics Rule: While Philosophy is an Arts course, UNIBEN requires at least a Pass (D7 or E8) in Mathematics.
• Sitting Policy: You can combine results, but it must not be more than two (2) sittings.

2. JAMB UTME Subject Selection

Choosing the wrong subjects in JAMB is a common mistake that ends admission dreams early. For Philosophy at UNIBEN, the combination is quite flexible:

• Use of English (Compulsory)
• Any three (3) other subjects. (While you can choose any, it is highly recommended to pick subjects from the Arts or Social Sciences, such as Government, Literature, or CRS/IRS).

3. The JAMB Cut-Off Mark

To be eligible for the UNIBEN Post-UTME screening, you need a competitive score.

• The Benchmark: Historically, you must score 200 or above in your JAMB UTME.

4. Direct Entry (DE) Requirements

If you aren’t applying through UTME and have a higher diploma or A-Levels, the requirements are:

• A-Level Passes: At least two (2) “A” level passes in relevant subjects.
• TC II: Five (5) Merit passes in TC II are also accepted.

5. Institutional & Departmental Screening

Once you meet the JAMB cut-off, you must participate in the UNIBEN Post-UTME Screening. This exercise usually tests your aptitude in English, General Knowledge, and some subjects related to your field. Your performance here is combined with your JAMB score to form your final “Aggregate Score.”

6. NUC Compliance & Accreditation

It is worth noting that the Philosophy department at UNIBEN is fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). This ensures that your degree will be recognized both locally and internationally for further studies or employment.
