Great news for the University of Africa, Toru-Orua (UAT) in Bayelsa State! The National Universities Commission (NUC) just gave the academy the “green light” to launch a fresh batch of postgraduate programs.
This was not just an arbitrary decision; the NUC transferred a platoon of experts to the lot to check if UAT actually has the staff and installations to handle advanced degrees. After seeing that everything was over par, the Commission transferred a sanctioned letter on January 30, 2026, giving the university the go-ahead to start these courses for the 2025/2026 academic year.
What’s New on the list?
The blessing is a massive palm for the academy, covering PGD, Master’s, and PhD situations across a wide variety of subjects. However, the fields are now open for postgraduate study if you’re looking to level up your education. Business & Finance Accounting and Business Administration (including the MBA). Tech & Science, Computer Science, Biology, and Biochemistry. Media & trades Mass Communication, plus theater and Film Studies. Social Lores & Education, Political Science, and Educational Management.
Key Regulations for UAT’s New Programs
While this is great news, the NUC has laid down some strict ground rules for UAT to follow
Full-Time Only For now, these programs are rigorously for full-time students. However, they’ve to go back and get separate authorization, If the academy wants to offer part-time options later.
No Name Changes The university has to stick to the exact course titles and classes that were approved. no switching effects up without telling the NUC first.
Keep norms High UAT is anticipated to keep investing in the speakers and outfit demanded to make sure these programs do not just live but actually thrive.
