Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal & External

The Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) is the final exam for Nigerian secondary school students, marking the end of six years of education. Obtaining a senior secondary school certificate and being admitted into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges is necessary.

The SSCE is conducted by two boards: WAEC (West African Examination Council) and NECO (National Examination Council). WAEC conducts the WASSCE (for final-year students, held in May-June) and the GCE (for private candidates, held in November-December).

NECO offers the NECO SSCE (for final-year students, held in June-July) and the NECO GCE (for private candidates, held in November-December). Both exams are available to students in their final year of secondary school (SS3).

Eligibility Criteria For The NECO Examination

  • At least 16 years old at the time of the exam.
  • Completed a minimum of five years of secondary education (SS3 or SS2) in Nigeria.
  • Passed the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) or its equivalent.
  • Currently in SS3 or SS2, or have completed secondary school.
  • Provide a unique, active phone number and email address.
  • Submit valid personal details: names, gender, date of birth, home address, local government, and state of origin.
  • Four passport-sized photographs.
  • List of 8-9 subjects for the NECO exam.
  • NECO exam fee.

NECO Registration Starting And Closing Date 2025/2026

NECO 2025 registration runs from March 13 to May 30, 2025. Register before the deadline to ensure your participation. Visit www.neco.gov.ng, click “Register,” choose your exam type (SSCE Internal or External), provide your details, upload a passport photo and ID, select your exam center and subjects, then submit and print your registration slip.

How Much Is NECO 2025 Registration Fee?

  • Registration: ₦17,800 (Mandatory)
  • Late Registration: ₦12,000 per candidate
  • Photo Album: ₦1,700 per pair (Mandatory)
  • Syllabus: ₦1,500 per copy
  • Four Figure Table: ₦250 per copy
  • Unviable Centre Fee: ₦50,000 (for centers with fewer than 20 candidates)
  • Late CA Submission: ₦25,000 (if CA3 is submitted after the deadline)

School candidates should pay fees according to their school’s procedure, which may vary, especially in private schools.
